PI KAPPA ALPHA MAKES WAVES
AT DELTA GAMMA’S ANCHORSPLASH
(Tucson, AZ) – The gentlemen of Pi Kappa Alpha have made yet another mark on The University of Arizona campus. Over the past week, all of the eligible fraternities on campus competed in Delta Gamma’s week-long annual philanthropy event, which supports the Ruth Billow Memorial Fund, “Anchorsplash.” After all the fundraising and events had been completed it was PIKE that came out as the Champions of Anchorsplash 2009!
The week’s events included a “Best Eyes” competition where people placed money in a jar that they feel had the best eye’s representing it. The men of Pike placed 1st in this competition by raising the most money in this event.
The next event was the “Anchorman” competition, which pitted all of the fraternities against each other in a male pageant. The pike representative, Chance Burns, competed in categories such as: formal wear, swimsuit, pick-up line, question and answer, and a talent portion. PIKE was very well represented with over 70 Pike Brothers attending the event, and was by far the loudest of all the fans in attendance. Adding the finishing touch on the Anchorman competition was the talent portion where Burns showed off the gentleman that he truly is by giving one Delta Gamma a crown, robe, a female magazine, and a massage. Throughout all of the events the crowd was roaring and supporting Burns all the way to his 2nd place finish.
The next and final event was the skit competition. Again the Pikes ruled the audience, covering more than one-third of the spectators. Many of the other fraternities’ skits had been commonly used in the past. When the Pike team entered the stage inside the Delta Gamma house, there were roars of approval for the creative outfits Pike had designed, white button-down dress shirts with the sleeves cut off and black ties. As the Pike skit began, the music could not even be heard from the roars and screams of approval from the crowd as Pike had the most memorable skit of the night.
After all the skits had been completed. There was a short break before the Delta Gamma seniors announced the winners of the Anchorsplash Competition. Finishing third were the men of FIJI, second were the men of Delta Chi, and the men of Pi Kappa Alpha took home the overall championship.
The men of Pi Kappa Alpha thoroughly enjoyed helping the wonderful ladies of Delta Gamma in their support of the Ruth Billow Memorial Fund. This fund offers educational grants and personal aid grants to Delta Gamma members. The fund gives special consideration to members who are blind or visually impaired. The fund also offers scholarships and fellowships to Delta Gammas pursuing degrees in the field of sight preservation or assistance to persons who are blind or visually impaired.

PI KAPPA ALPHA MAKES POSITIVE IMPACT
AT “UP TIL DAWN” PHILANTHROPY EVENT
Location (Tucson, AZ) – On Saturday, March 7, 2009, twenty-four of the colony members of Pi Kappa Alpha donated their night and participated in the St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital Philanthropy Event. The men of Pike provided four teams of six men each and finished 3rd in Spirit Points for the night.
On the night Pike produced over 1200 letters to various family members and Pike alumni to help encourage donations for St Jude’s Children Hospital. The average cost to keep the non-profit organization up and running is 1.1 million dollars per day.
Thanks to this event, the participation from these men of Pike, and the donations they helped generate, St. Jude’s will be able to continue to research and help fight against the death of young children due to terminal diseases.
Pike’s participation in this event is only one of the many philanthropic events that they participate in. The men of Pike have set a goal of 3000 cumulative community service hours for the year and hope to raise $15,000 dollars for charities this school year.

PI KAPPA ALPHA IS BACK
AT THE UNIVERSITY OF ARIZONA
(Tucson, AZ) - After a 5 year absence, the Gamma Delta chapter of the PI Kappa Alpha Fraternity is returning to the University of Arizona campus.
Beginning on September 4, 2008, National Consultants, Tyler Greene and Mike Jacobsen began the re-colonization process of the Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter at the University of Arizona. Built upon the standards of the acronym S.L.A.G. (Scholar. Leader. Athlete. Gentleman.) Pi Kappa Alpha is dedicated to holding themselves to a higher standard than the typical fraternity on campus. With this strong ideal, Pi Kappa Alpha has come back recruiting only the men that display these characters, or what they consider the “Most Best Men.” The two consultants over the course of a month and a half generated over 500 names and over 400 interviews that culminated in the largest re-colonization project the our nations Greek Life system has seen in the past twelve years, with having 125 new Pi Kappa Alpha Colony Members.
One strong influence in this process is the strong belief that the new Pi Kappa Alpha Chapter will defy the stereotype of the average “frat boy” which has come synonymous with the current fraternities on campus. With strong leadership in place through an Alumni Advisory Board, headed by Chapter Advisor Brent Seebohm, the board of fourteen Advisors will advise and assist the new colony men in become a fraternity that will be seen in a different light than the other fraternities on campus.
Some of the many ways the men of Pi Kappa Alpha will achieve this on the University of Arizona campus is through: Striving for 100% campus involvement for all members, including clubs or other organizations on campus, raising $15,000 for philanthropy, maintaining an overall chapter GPA of 3.0 and maintaining a firm policy of absolutely no abuse or degrading actions towards pledges or active brothers. Currently Pi Kappa Alpha is raising money for research of Juvenile Diabetes as well as participating in Relay For Life, which raises money for cancer research.
Instead of the traditional rush membership process, Pi Kappa Alpha at the University of Arizona operates using a referral only interviews recruitment process. Members of the colony include: The University of Arizona Student Body President Elect Chris Nagata, Senator Elect Leo Yamaguchi, and multiple members on the Interfraternity Council Board.
The Pi Kappa Alpha Colony has paired up with the ladies of the Delta Delta Delta Sorority for the University of Arizona’s annual Spring Fling event, the largest student-run carnival in the country.
